Object Writing Exercise - Environment is a site that provides a word for the day everyday. The idea is to wake up, look up the word, set your timer for 10 mins and just write. It's a great way to start the day.Write about the object or subject using your sense based faculties; Taste, Touch, Sight, Sound, Smell as well as your kinesthetic senses- movement and body sensations.

Here's my take on the word for the day - Environment.

I'd always liked this place. From day one, it felt new, different, not me, but comfortable at the same time. I could see it in her eyes that she liked it too. This way we started something new together, away from prying looks, the clicking of disapproving lips.

And so in days, it went from an empty skeleton, to a living, breathing place, eucalyptus scented from her lotion. A sanctuary that I escaped to every night and every second I blissfully closed my eyes.

I always thought of myself as a country boy. Space, green, fresh cut straw in the fields, smoke from chimneys in the winter. I guess I though wrong - how did I know that concrete, neon, people and glass would feel like home?

Stimulation at every turn, people to greet, the rough skin of hands to shake, some familiar, some never to see again. Returning to the streets fills me with such a feeling of contentment. Rising from within, filling my nostrils, everypart of me, swelling my chest like it will explode.

It's just me now, this place has changed. But I have grown with it. Concrete, sirens, steel, high rises, something new emerged from the shell of what was.

The lights of the bay dazzle me everytime I head north. This is my city, this is my environment.
